Summersault House reimagines family living in the heart of Sydney’s Bronte. Designed as a ‘forever home’ for a family of five, the project balances heritage sensitivity with bold contemporary expression.

The house unfolds in three parts: a restored Federation frontage, a striking modern living core, and a self-contained studio above an adaptable garage. These components converge around a dramatic light-filled atrium—a spatial anchor inspired by Jørn Utzon’s Bagsværd Church, referencing the clients’ years in Copenhagen.

The repositioned side entry creates a sense of compression before releasing into the soaring atrium, which houses the kitchen, stair, and main circulation where sculptural curves, skylights, and translucent polycarbonate panels animate the interiors with shifting light.

Ocean glimpses, flexible layouts, and seamless indoor-outdoor connections ground the home in its coastal context while anticipating future needs.

Planning separates adult and children’s zones while maintaining strong visual and physical links to the surrounding gardens. The result is an everyday sanctuary – personal, contextual, and filled with light – crafted to evolve with its inhabitants and endure across generations.
