Sited at the top of Clovelly’s cliffs, this 1960’s apartment has been radically reimagined to suit the needs of a growing family – transforming a one-bedroom unit into a warm, efficient, and deeply personal two-bedroom home.

Working within a tight 62 sqm footprint, the renovation involved the removal of all but one of the eleven load-bearing walls, replacing them with exposed steel beams that now articulate the memory of the original plan.

This reconfigured floorplan prioritises connection to light, landscape, and family life. By aligning kitchen, dining, and living along the ocean-facing eastern façade, the apartment feels open, calm, and continuously engaged with its surroundings.

The defining interior feature is a custom joinery wall with pivoting panels that subtly separates private and public zones, concealing the bedrooms and bathroom behind a seamless timber façade.

A restrained palette – white-set plaster, limed plywood, oak flooring, and raw brass fittings – adds richness through texture and patina. Every surface and junction is carefully considered, marrying crisp detailing with a welcoming, lived-in character.

The result is both a case study in compact living and a compelling model for revitalising mid-century apartments – demonstrating that even modest spaces can offer extraordinary quality of life when reimagined with care and clarity.
